A gentle Tarot ritual for grief and remembrance with a blue flower, moon, doorway, and candle

Using Tarot as a Gentle Ritual for Grief and Remembrance

Make room for the person who is missing

Grief can make ordinary objects feel charged. A mug, a song, an empty chair. Tarot can offer another small container for memory, but it should never be used to claim certainty about the dead or bypass the work of grieving.

Use the cards to remember what was loved, what was learned, and what needs care today.

A remembrance spread

  1. What do I want to remember?
  2. What quality from this relationship still lives in me?
  3. What support do I need today?

You might draw The Empress and think of a person’s way of feeding everyone before themselves. You might draw the Six of Cups and remember a kitchen, a childhood joke, or the strange sweetness of an old photograph. The card does not prove a message came from elsewhere. It gives memory a shape you can sit beside.

Close with care

Put the card away when you are finished. Drink something, call someone, or step outside. If the reading intensifies your pain, stop and seek support from someone qualified to help.

Grief does not need to become meaningful on command. Sometimes a card simply helps you say, “I miss them,” and let that sentence be enough.
